DIY Tips for Inexperienced Plumbers

If your drain or water supply is leaky, you must definitely take some immediate actions to prevent major plumbing issues. The easiest way to detect a problem, if you suspect leaks, but cannot see them, is to use your hands to feel around a pipe’s circumference. However, this is not always enough and the assistance of an expert plumber may be needed. If you don’t get one on time the leak may cause structural damage and contribute to the growth of mold and mildew. A spread of decay within structure’s wall cavities may also appear.

Here is the three step plan of Tim Winnett Plumbing & Sons for a plumbing issue detection:

  1. Plug all rough openings throughout the entire drain, waste and vent system, which have the option to get test plugs inserted in them. After doing it, or after booking one of the local plumbing contractors for half an hour to help you manage this, you may place the test plug into the pipe, twist a quarter turn and hold in place for about 30 seconds. Apply a thorough coating of thread sealant paste to the male threads of the clean out or plug, then press the cap or plug against the clean out, twist to engage the threads and turn until hand-tight. You can use a wrench if you need to tighten up the plug or cap a ? turn beyond hand-tight.
  2. Use a water hose to sprinkle H2O over the structure’s roof. You can do this by inserting the water hose into the drain system vent closest to the roof’s peak. When you turn on the water supply to the hose allow it to fill the drain, waste and vent system until the water starts spilling from the vent.
  3. After you stop the water flowing in the pipelines, you can inspect the whole system for leaks. If you still cannot see any issue you better leave the water in the system stay there overnight. Do a morning inspection afterwards and remove the water.
